Badlands

Badlands, SD (June 8, 2009) ..

Today we arrived at the Badlands National Park and set up camp just outside the small town of Interior, SD (population 65). We traversed 1154 miles in the home on wheels since leaving Louisville, KY. Above is a view of the sedimentary rock found everywhere in this part of South Dakota. It resembles the Grand Canyon but on a smaller scale. The park encloses about a quarter million acres of land. The rock and the grasslands above it are slowly eroding away revealing millions of fossils. We plan on spending three days here and then move on to the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore.
